Seven teenagers have been charged with armed robbery over their alleged role in the brazen daytime attack on the French film crew of “Lupin,” a Netflix series about a burglar. Last month, a gang of about 20 hooded thieves threw firecrackers at the crew and made off with about $330,000 worth of gear.
Three of the accused robbers, aged between 13 and 21, are in custody and four are under judicial supervision. Police are still searching for other attackers and have recovered some of the stolen equipment, Agence France-Presse reported on Saturday.
The crew was filming with series star Omar Sy late in February afternoon in the Pablo Picasso district of the Paris suburb of Nanterre when they were attacked.
No one in the cast or crew – including Sy – was injured.
The show tells the story of professional thief Assane Diop, played by Sy. The series was inspired by the fictional French master of disguises, Arsène Lupin.
Lupine isn’t the only high-profile Netflix production to be targeted by thieves this year.
The day before the Paris robbery, robbers stole more than 200 antique props from the set of TV series The Crown in Britain’s South Yorkshire.
The two robberies are not believed to be connected.
