Abbott Elementary’ star Quinta Brunson worked for a phone sex line

Before creating and starring in Abbott Elementary, Quinta Brunson was hired to work on an “adult hotline” — although she didn’t know it at the time.

During her Tuesday night appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers, Brunson, 32, shared the comedy of mistakes that eventually led her to acting.

Before starring in her own sitcom, the author found an audience on BuzzFeed who picked up the comedian after a skit she posted online went viral. She has since lent her voice to several cartoon characters in Adult Swim’s Lazor Wulf and her eponymous character in Netflix’s Big Mouth.

But not every job change was so enchanted, revealed the “She Memes Well” author in an interview.

“So I needed some money because I was really broke, and I saw an opportunity on Craigslist for some voiceover work,” she began. “And I was like, ‘I want to be in cartoons someday — I’d love to do that.'”

The job posting, as Brunson described it, called for “someone to call you and have a good time” — which sounded “funny” to her.

The naïve was given a name for her personality – Crystal – and shared a picture of model and trainer Buffie the Body, recognized by many as the woman in 50 Cent’s “So Seductive” music video.

“I had to pretend I was her on the phone for people calling. And it was really gross. I didn’t get over it,” said Brunson, who quit the job after her first and only call as a phone sex operator.

Despite the well-encrypted classified ad of the hotline, it was honest work, she assured Meyers.

“You were telling the truth,” Brunson said. “They said, ‘You get a dollar a minute.’ And I made three dollars that day.’”
