The Johnny Depp-Amber Heard defamation trial has dominated the headlines for weeks with dramatic and disturbing allegations of sexual abuse. But a new, seemingly random, tidbit from Heard has become TikTok’s latest obsession.
A snippet of her May 4th statement has gone viral as TikTok users wrote rhymes to make poetry inspired by her quote.
“My dog stepped on a bee,” Heard recalled in court, before wincing while recounting details of a day she and ex-husband Depp got into a vicious fight.
TikTokkers are obsessed with the fast clip, adding parts and stitching together videos of their own random rhymes and twitches.
Hundreds of videos have been created and have garnered hundreds of thousands if not millions of views. The viral videos begin with the original “My dog stepped on a bee” clip from Heard’s testimony, before TikTokker erupts into their own poetry.
“My dad had to pee,” says one man, before user Cloeann Hardee sadly says, “I forgot my house key,” in a video that has amassed 6.3 million views.
“My child spilled my tea,” complains one woman. “Jimmy Saville shagged me,” TikTokker Ben Cotton finished the rhyme for his 2.6 million viewers.
And a user who goes by the name of Zeusliftsheavy merged Heard’s clip with a snippet from Queen’s music video for her 1984 single “I Want to Break Free.” The video compilation has garnered 1.8 million views.
In another viral video, which has 2.2 million views on Vinyl Haus’ account, a virtual bee hovers through the air and says, “Amber tells lies about me.”
The viral trend has poked fun at a seemingly random detail from Heard, but it comes from another day of chilling testimonies.
Heard told the jury how her dog was injured and took her to a vet’s office on the day she claimed Depp forced her to do a “cave search.” The actress said it was the same day they ingested psychotropic mushrooms during a trip with friends to Hicksville Trailer Palace in Joshua Tree, California.
Heard testified that Depp accused her of hiding his drugs, tore up her dress and began groping her.
“He told me, ‘We’re doing a cavity search,'” she said with a whimper.
“He just shoved his fingers inside me,” she continued, adding that she “just stood there and faced the stupid light” as he twisted his fingers around inside her.
Heard is defending herself against claims that she defamed Depp and ended his Hollywood career when she wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post in 2018, describing herself as “a public figure who portrays domestic violence.” Though the play didn’t name Depp, readers were quick to link her ex-husband to the abuse allegations.
Depp has taken a stand in the early weeks of the Virginia trial, which is on hold until May 16 and is expected to conclude by the end of the month.
