Batgirl Directors Reveal Which Ex-Batman Is Back

A very familiar face returns to the Batman universe.

Batgirl directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah revealed an old pal will be appearing in the upcoming HBO Max movie.

The two confirmed to Insider that Michael Keaton will be joining the “Batgirl” cast.

Keaton, 70, played Bruce Wayne/Batman in Tim Burton’s 1989 film of the same name.

The Spotlight actor reprized the character in the 1992 sequel Batman Returns.

“Can we say something?” El Arbi asked his co-director and longtime friend.

“Fk yes,” Fallah replied silly back. “The OG Batman is in the movie.”

Keaton will also reprise his role as the Caped Crusader in Warner Bros.’ upcoming superhero film The Flash.

However, The Flash’s release date has been pushed back a few times, and fans may see Keaton in Batgirl first.

While Batgirl recently wrapped filming, it is expected to premiere later this year. The Flash is expected to be released on June 23, 2023. “We don’t know when ‘Batgirl’ will be out,” El Arbi noted. “No one told us anything about optimizations just to keep going.”

In the Heights Breakout star Leslie Grace plays the superhero of the same name, who is also the daughter of Commissioner James Gordon (JK Simmons). Brendan Fraser was cast as the villain Firefly, a psychotic pyromaniac.

Keaton previously alluded to donning the Batman suit again, telling Deadline in March 2021 that it was a possibility.

“You’re giving back and you’re like, ‘What is this?'” he joked as he picked up his superhero costume from the dry cleaners. “‘How come you gave me the outfit from The Hulk?'”

“With [the ‘Batman’ reprise], I’ll see what happens here,” said the “Mr. Mom,” said the actor. “It’s definitely going to be fun. Lets see what happens.”

Keaton added, “To tell you the truth, somewhere on my iPad is an iteration of the whole Flash thing that I haven’t had time to do… I called them and said, ‘I have to be honest with you. I can’t watch anything right now. I’m so deep into this thing I’m doing.’

“I’m not cute or shy,” he joked. “If I talk about it, I’m just kidding you.”
