Daniel Radcliffe will pass on Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Potterheads shouldn’t expect to see their favorite wizard in future film adaptations of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

Harry Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe, is not interested in resuming his role as a career builder at the moment.

The British actor, 32, recently told the New York Times that a Cursed Child flick “isn’t something I’m really interested in right now.”

The Lost City star continued, “It’s not the answer that anyone is going to want, but I think I was able to go back and enjoy it because it’s not a part of my daily life anymore.”

Radcliffe and his co-stars Rupert Grint and Emma Watson reunited earlier this year for the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts special, which aired on HBO Max.

“I get to a point where I feel like I got through ‘Potter’ fine and I’m really happy with where I am now and going back would be such a massive change in my life,” he said.

Radcliffe added, “I’ll never say never, but the ‘Star Wars’ guys had like 30, 40 years before they went back. It was only 10 for me. That’s something I’m not really interested in at the moment.”

Cursed Child is a sequel to the Harry Potter films and follows the exploits of adult Harry and Ginny and their youngest son Albus. The 2016 play was written by Jack Thorne based on an original story by original HP author JK Rowling, John Tiffany and Thorne.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone director Chris Columbus opened up about the franchise to mark the film’s 20th anniversary in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter published last year. He revealed he’d be thrilled to direct a Cursed Child movie.

“A version of ‘Cursed Child’ with Dan, Rupert and Emma in the right age, that’s cinema happiness,” said the 63-year-old at the time.

The Percy Jackson director continued, “If you’re a movie nerd or cinephile, it’s kind of like JJ [Abrams] made with ‘Star Wars’. ‘Star Wars’ really got great again when JJ did the movie and we got all the original cast back.”

“There’s no question, if you’re a ‘Star Wars’ fan, you were moved just to see her on screen, to see Harrison Ford back as Han Solo – and Chewy. It was very moving. I think that would be the same situation for ‘Harry Potter’ fans. To actually see these adult actors back in these roles now? Oh yeah. It would be incredibly fun to do that movie – or two movies,” Columbus said.
