Elizabeth Chambers is ready to open up about her split from Armie Hammer. The couple announced their separation after 10 years of marriage in July 2020 following disturbing allegations that Hammer had violently abused women. In the September cover story of E! the 40-year-old founder of BIRD Bakery spoke about how her split has affected her and how the pair are sticking to a united front for the sake of their two children, Harper, 7, and Ford Hammer. 5.
“Our divorce is not finalized yet. But we’re in a really great place. We talk all the time,” Chambers said. “We are fully committed to our children and to being together for our children in a non-romantic way as much as possible. Children need their mother, children need their father. So there’s nothing we wouldn’t do.”
But of course it wasn’t easy. Chambers admits there have “definitely” been challenges along the way. She explained, “Armie has been focused on his healing. There’s the oxygen mask theory: you can’t really take care of someone until you’re taken care of. There’s a reason they say on the plane, ‘Secure your own mask before helping others.’ He was very busy securing his own mask. My mask has been secured [the kids’] Masks are on, so right now it was really about focusing on them and protecting them.
Even though Chambers and Hammer are no longer together, she is there to support him through his healing process. “It will make him the best father, the best person he can be,” she said. “At the end of the day, that’s the goal. We are in constant communication and all that matters is that he is the best father to our children. Everything else that occupies him, of course, he processes personally – and that is now his own journey.” .”
Now, looking back on their 10 years of marriage, Chambers added: “I look back and I truly have the most beautiful, most wonderful children in the world. I love my jobs, I love my restaurants, I love my work on TV – on At The End Of The Day, I Love My Life. It wasn’t perfect. I think there was a time when I was so focused on the perfect Christmas card – and honestly, perfect is so overrated. It’s not interesting and I think it took my processing time to let go.”
In here! In the cover story, Chambers also revealed that she’s been watching Discovery+’s House of Hammer documentaries and that she’s currently in “a committed relationship.” But for now, she’s just focused on moving forward. “I describe myself as very focused and very clear – and healed, honestly. I feel like I’m in a really good environment and the best mom I could be. The best I could be at work, the best leader I could be,” she said. “All we can do is be accountable to ourselves and all we can do is with Compassion, responding with love, understanding, listening to everything around us and then being the best we can be.”
