Following reports that comedian Pete Davidson has canceled his anticipated space trip with Blue Origin, the public are demanding an unlikely replacement – his love rival Kanye West. The social media campaign comes amid the two celebrities’ high-profile spat, which began after Davidson began dating Ye’s estranged wife Kim Kardashian.
The 28-year-old “Saturday Night Live” star was originally scheduled to take off on March 23 with Jeff Bezo’s aerospace company for a low Earth orbit flight. However, Blue Origin recently announced it was rescheduling the flight to later this month, clashing with the star’s schedule. While a certain reason has never been specified, the date change Davidson forced to cancel his first space flight.
“Blue Origin’s 20th flight on New Shepard has been rescheduled to Tuesday, March 29.” wrote the company. “Pete Davidson can no longer join the NS-20 crew on this mission.
They added: “We will announce the sixth occupying member in the coming days.”
Social media was quick to suggest that West, 44, take his place.
Geekwire editor Alan Boyle shared a story about Davidsons grounding with the comment: “I wonder if @kanyewest is available…”
“Get Kanye on the phone!” seconded “Complex” pop culture writer Karla Rodriguez of the “Jesus Walks” singer.
Jake Eichstaedt athletic director of ABC affiliate WWAY approached West directly on Twitter and told him To make it possible.”
It is unlikely that this idea will actually take off. In any case, the cancellation comes as a major blow to Davidson, who, had he embarked on the journey, would have joined a small circle of celebrities who have flown into space on Blue Origin, including Michael Strahan, William Shatner, and even Bezos himself .
Earlier this month, Page Six was the first to report that Davidson had ambitions to get off the planet, while the comedian and his girlfriend Kim Kardashian were spotted at the Bezos compound in Los Angeles in January
“Pete is excited,” a Davidson source said at the time. “They haven’t signed a contract yet, but it looks like they will.”
No word on how pulling the plug will affect the ongoing Davidson-West beef, which began after the Staten Island native began dating the rapper’s reality star wife last fall.
Since then, West has repeatedly criticized the prankster on Instagram, even releasing a controversial music video in which he kidnapped and beheaded Davidson’s Claymation look-alike.
The spit really picked up steam last week after Davidson shared screenshots of a text war he was reportedly having with the Grammy winner.
At one point, West had asked, “Where are you right now?” “In bed with your wife,” Davidson replied, alongside a selfie of himself under the covers.
Meanwhile, the hip-hopper was booted from Instagram for 24 hours on Wednesday after following Kardashian, Davidson and Trevor Noah on the social media platform.
Despite frequent online harassment, West’s ex Julia Fox claims the “I Thought About Killing You” singer poses no threat to either Kardashian or Davidson.
“Kanye is harmless. I just think that’s his artistic creative expression,” the Uncut Gems actress pointed out in reference to West’s social media salvo. “I know it’s aggressive, but I think if it really matters, I don’t think Kanye would harm a fly.”
