Lizzie McGuire is grown.
Former child star Hilary Duff bare it all in a nude photoshoot for the May-June cover of Women’s Health.
“I think at 34 I just gained a lot of respect for my body,” she said. “It has taken me to all the places I need to go. It helped me build a beautiful family. I feel like the older I get, the more confident I become in my own skin. . . I’m really only fascinated by 1: being a woman. And 2: all the changes your body can go through over the course of your lifetime.”
Duff first came to prominence as a teen idol in Lizzie McGuire (a television series that aired from 2001 to 2004 and a 2003 film). She later starred in rom-coms and family-friendly films like Cheaper by the Dozen and A Cinderella Story, not to mention her music career and a widely publicized love triangle between rapper Aaron Carter and actress Lindsay Lohan. While Lohan and other stars of the era were portrayed as wild in the media, Duff’s public image was more down-to-earth.
“It was a conscious decision not to be scared and to try to change people’s minds about who I am. That doesn’t mean I didn’t want to try it!” she told Women’s Health. “It would be stupid of me not to know that I have a fondness for playing this relatable girl. I am this girl.”
She confessed that she struggled with an eating disorder when she was 17. “Because of my career, I can’t help but say, ‘I’m in front of the camera and actresses are skinny,'” she said. But after having three kids and getting another tattoo (ink on her neck that reads “mother,” in addition to roses and swallows on her arms), her body is doing better, she said.
She attempted to revive “Lizzie McGuire” in a series for Disney+ via an adult version of the character, but was axed in December 2020 due to creative differences. Duff previously wrote an Instagram post asking Disney to air the revival on Hulu, writing, “I would be doing everyone a disservice if I narrowed down the realities of a 30-year-old’s journey to stay below the cap of a PG.” -Rating to live.”
She continued, “She had to be 30 to do 30-year-old things. She didn’t have to constantly bong and have one night stands, but it did have to be authentic. I think they were frightened.”
Today she stars in the spinoff series How I Met Your Mother and How I Met Your Father on Hulu. She has a 10-year-old son, Luca, with her ex-husband, NHL star Mike Comrie, and she also has two daughters, 3-year-old Banks and 1-year-old Mae, with her current husband, the singer-songwriter Matthew Koma, to whom she has been married since 2019.
“I’m proud of my body,” she said. “I am proud that it has produced three children for me. I have arrived at a place where I am at peace with the changes my body has gone through. I also want people to know that there was a makeup artist who made my whole body glow and someone put me in the most flattering position.”
