The rising crime rate in New York City is no laughing matter — but John Mulaney is quick to joke about Eric Adams’ questionable crackdown on illegal behavior.
The comedian took the stage at the Robin Hood benefit Monday night and gored the mayor after defending the arrest of a woman selling mangoes in a Brooklyn subway station.
Mulaney has blasted Adams – who was in the audience at the swanky event – for targeting petty crime, while serious crimes such as assault and burglaries continue to rise.
Earlier Monday, Adams said the NYPD was right to tie up and search the mango seller because street selling could lead to even more nefarious crimes.
“It just doesn’t work,” Adams said at a press conference. “The next day, propane tanks will be used in the subway system. The next day there will be a barbecue in the subway.”
Mulaney shattered that logic at the Robin Hood Gala, when his remarks were caught on camera in a video posted to Instagram by TV and radio personality Bevy Smith.
“Mayor Adams, what are you talking about?!” Mulaney asked, annoyed from the stage. “What is a subway barbecue and why do you hate it so much?”
The Saturday Night Live alum continued, “Mayor Adams always brings up two issues and then a crazy one.”
He then falsified Adam’s crime-fighting plans by parodying the mayor’s proposals.
“No guns, no crime, no crickets on the subway!” Mulaney scoffed. “Better schools, better transportation, no more volleyball games on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway!”
Smith, a former Page Six TV co-host, praised the comedian for calling out the politician.
“He [Mayor Adams] is ridiculous & a villain which is why i through and through [sic] I enjoyed John Mulaney raking him in for his idiotic logic and outright lies about the coals and the propane heater!” She captioned her video.
Adams – a former police officer – campaigned for his criminal credentials before his election late last year.
However, serious crimes have continued to rise and he has been harshly criticized for failing to adequately address the crisis.
Last week, former Mayor Rudy Giuliani told the Post Adams “did nothing” to make the city safer.
“To date, he is the biggest failure of a new mayor in America. He’s the worst failure of a new mayor’s freshman year in New York City in my life,” Giuliani raged.
Instead, Adams has built a celebrity reputation by attending the Met Gala and partying with Cara Delevingne.
The party-loving Pole recently drew ire for jetting off to Los Angeles after failing to make any headway on his city’s worsening crime crisis.
