Margot Robbie ‘shamed’ by leaked Barbie photos

Life in plastic is not total fantastic according to Margot Robbie, who explained how embarrassed she was after photos of Greta Gerwig’s upcoming Barbie movie were leaked online. The photos included a snap of Robbie and her co-star Ryan Gosling in colorful ’80s-inspired roller skate outfits, which Jimmy Fallon wore while appearing on The Tonight Show. While the two were filming in Los Angeles, paparazzi apparently snapped pictures of these prismacolor costumes and quickly took the internet by storm. “I can’t tell you how embarrassed we were,” Robbie told Fallon. “We look like we’re laughing and having fun, but we’re dying inside. Die. I thought this is the most humbling moment of my life.”

“We look like we’re laughing and having fun, but we’re dying inside. Die.”

While social media seemed mostly overjoyed by the over-the-top fashion, Robbie said it was the fact that so many people saw her Barbie character taken out of context that really surprised her. When Fallon asked her if she ever expected such a viral reaction, she answered honestly. “I mean, I knew we had to do some location shoots in LA. I knew once you did exterior shots, you’re going to get capped. There’s probably going to be a small crowd of people who will notice because, you know, we stand out a bit in these outfits,” she said, to which Fallon replied, “You think?!”

“So I knew there would be a bit of attention and probably some photos would come out, but not the way it happened,” Robbie continued. “It was crazy. It was like there were hundreds of people watching.” Since that first shot of Robbie and Gosling skating in their neon knee pads, we’ve also seen the dynamic duo coordinating western outfits (including some star-studded flares), and Gosling living his best Ken doll life together -piece- denim set. Unfortunately, fans will have to wait until July 2023 to see all of Barbie’s iconic fashions as they were intended: on the big screen.
