My voice may never be normal again after lung cancer

Kathy Griffin’s voice is still a little hoarse after her battle with lung cancer.

The comedian, 61, appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday night, where she spoke candidly about her struggles after surviving the disease.

She noted that her voice may never return to its original pitch after her illness, but she’s working on it.

“The last time I was here – just really quickly – I had lung cancer, they removed half of my left lung and it damaged my voice,” Griffin said. “I’m fine, it doesn’t hurt and most importantly my boobs are still fabulous.”

The comedian said: “I think it’s going to get back to normal but I’m not sure. I am still working on it.”

Kimmel, 54, then joked that changing his voice would actually make Griffin sound funnier.

“I’m funnier because I think I don’t sound menacing and reserved. This is my new perspective,” she replied.

“Thank God you’re a comedian and not a cop,” said the late moderator.

“Can you imagine [if I was a cop]? ‘Stop! Stop it folks! Be nicer!’ ‘ asked Griffin.

The “My Life on the D-List” star announced to fans in August 2021 that she was diagnosed with lung cancer. Days later, she underwent surgery to remove part of her lungs.

The former Fashion Police co-host revealed she previously suffered from pill addiction and has told fans how she hopes to go through her drug-free deal.

“To be honest, this cancer surgery was a little bit more than I expected. Tonight will be my first night without narcotic painkillers. Hello Tylenol my new best friend!” she wrote on Instagram at the time. “The last time I was in a hospital was in June 2020 when I attempted suicide and overdosed on prescription pills.”

She continued, “After over a year clean and drug free, I now know I can do this and anything I want without these devil pills. You know what? I’m more afraid of drugs and addiction than I am of cancer. So, I think I’ll be fine.”

Griffin later joined Kimmel’s talk show in November 2021, where she announced that she was cancer-free.

“I’m cancer-free,” Griffin declared at the time. “I don’t know why, I had a tumor right? And I’ve never smoked, and it’s been 10 years. So take this, they took it out and found it on another scan.”

Adding to her voice, “She’ll heal, but I kind of enjoy her. I’m a good two octaves higher, I think… higher than Mariah Carey.”
