Olivia Wilde spoke about life as a single mother during an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show on September 21.
“I think it’s difficult to rebuild a family,” said Wilde, who split from fiancé Jason Sudeikis in November 2020. “The only benefit is that I’ve been able to have some really deep conversations with my kids about emotions and happiness and what family and love means, and it’s actually allowed me to get to know them in a different way.”
Her children, she said, always came first. “They are my priority. That’s it. As long as they’re happy and healthy, my ex and I agree,” she said. “You are everything to us.”
She also said that raising her children in the public eye made her family life even more complex. “If you can surround her with that much love, then that’s fine,” she said. “But you know, it’s difficult because we don’t do it privately.”
Wilde and Sudeikis’ split has made headlines in recent months thanks to Wilde’s high-profile relationship with Harry Styles, the star of her upcoming film Don’t Worry Darling. Wilde was also served custody papers when she presented onstage at CinemaCon in April, although a source close to Sudeikis People said the “Ted Lasso” star was unaware the papers would be delivered onstage.
After that incident, Wilde’s main concern was the couple’s children, 8-year-old Otis and 5-year-old Daisy. “It was horrifying for me, but the victims were 8-year-olds and 5-year-olds, and that’s really sad,” she said. “I decided to be an actress; I have willingly stepped into the limelight. But my kids didn’t ask for it.”
At the end of the day, however, Wilde Clarkson said it helps her stay on top of everything. “The thing is, it’s hard. It’s hard sometimes,” she said. “But at the end of the day I’m so lucky … There are people dealing with real health crises everywhere and, you know, my stuff is out there, but I’m alive and my kids are alive and that’s what will become me.” through. I remember that every day.”
