“Stranger Things” Season 4 Spoils Into Monopoly, Duffer Bros “Meltdown”

Things are on their head for the spoiler-conscious Stranger Things creators, the Duffer brothers.

A Monopoly board game has spilled the essence of the upcoming season’s plot, leading to a “total breakdown” for the Duffer brothers, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Customers who bought the game took photos and posted them online last month, where they made the rounds on Reddit. The poster claimed that the game was purchased from Target and was likely released early as a bug as it is not yet available to purchase online.

“If it was put on the floor prematurely…it was probably the fault of an employee who didn’t handle the shipment properly,” they wrote. “…The Monopoly game isn’t a real leak, it’s a mistake by someone.”

The Duffer brothers were not consulted about the game, which is not uncommon for toy TV show connections. The Baby Yoda toy wasn’t available long after The Mandalorian launched, due to similar spoiler concerns shown by showrunner Jon Favreau. Still, Netflix continues a bad press week after laying off 150 employees following earlier reports of plummeting shares and bleeding subscribers.

Season 4 of Stranger Things begins after the death of Billy (Dacre Montgomery) and the breakup of the gang. Hopper (David Harbour) is being held in a sinister camp in remote Russia while everyone assumes he is dead. Meanwhile, the Byers family, which includes Joyce (Winona Ryder), Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) and Wil (Noah Schnapp), has moved away from Hawkins, Indiana. Furthermore, as shown in the trailer, a war is brewing.

Stranger Things concludes with Season 5. Season 4 will premiere in two parts, May 27th and July 1st.

Stranger Things and Netflix officials didn’t respond when The Post solicited comment.
