The Moulin Rouge windmill in Paris becomes a $1 Airbnb

For just $1 a night, you can stay in the famous Moulin Rouge windmill, available for rent for the first time.

Located on the edge of the tourist-popular Montmartre district near Pigalle, the cabaret (whose name translates to Red Mill in English) is considered the home of the French can-can – a number that became a popular variety show in the 1840s -Dance became .

According to the Airbnb listing, “Guests will get a peek behind the velvet curtains of the fabled landmark, including behind-the-scenes access to the theater, a three-course traditional French meal, prime seats during the acclaimed show Féerie at the Moulin Rouge, and an overnight stay in the legendary windmill.”

But if the insanely low price of just a dollar to stay at one of the world’s most iconic properties sounds too good to be true, that’s because it is. Only three single nights on June 13th, 20th and 27th are available and prospective guests can request a space starting Tuesday May 17th.

Anyone who gets one will be spoiled. Airbnb worked with 19th-century French historian Jean-Claude Yon, who took a month to refurbish the windmill exactly as it would have been, according to a press release.

It even comes with a secret room that “brings the art and romance of the Belle Époque era to life for an experience through time.”

“The Belle Époque era was a time when French culture and art flourished – and no landmark of the period is as iconic as the Moulin Rouge,” said Yon, who specializes in French cultural and social history, in the press release . “This secret room in the famous cabaret windmill was designed to take you on an authentic journey back in time to experience the French capital of arts and pleasures in a moment of history.”

Features include a sexy boudoir with Art Nouveau design; a dressing area with vintage costumes, fragrant perfumes and letters from admirers; and a private rooftop deck adorned with an ornate pagoda and garden.

“The windmill was built in 1889 as a tribute to Montmartre’s rural heritage before being rebuilt three decades later after a fire,” said Claudine Van Den Bergh, a dancer in the play Féerie.

“The bedroom – which has been a closely guarded secret until now – recreates all the romance of the Belle Époque and invites guests on a journey through history and time,” the publication added.
