Morgan noted that “sweat, perfume and makeup” may have gotten on the dress, causing “countless amounts of damage and stains.”

However, Kardashian reportedly went to the event without makeup. Additionally, a Ripley’s rep told The Post she had “the utmost respect” for the garment.

“This was not an easy decision for Ripley’s, but Kim Kardashian has continued to show the utmost respect for this occasion and this historic garment,” the spokesperson said in a statement. “From extensive research to guidelines like no body makeup, only wearing the dress for the brief red carpet appearance, and making absolutely no alterations, she became a steward — and contributed to her story.”

Nina Boski, producer of the TV documentaries and podcast Marilyn: Behind the Icon, echoed Morgan’s stance, telling The Post that the Kardashian viral moment was “not a positive memory of the star.”

“I can understand why Kim would want to wear the dress for promotional purposes; However, the dress should only have been worn by one person, and that’s the iconic Marilyn Monroe,” Boski said.

“It doesn’t help Marilyn’s legacy, especially on the 60th anniversary of her death,” she added of the Some Like It Hot star, who died in August 1962 at the age of 36.

Scott Fortner is a Marilyn Monroe historian and collector and also commented on the Skims owner’s Met Gala attire.

“Kim broke the internet [with her look] and it was an opportunity for her and Ripley’s,” Fortner told the Post. “[But] Fans are outraged because it’s one of those things in the Marilyn community that is considered sacred. The dress is quintessential Marilyn Monroe and was worn by her once.”

Fortner was emphatic in stating that wearing the dress — a dress he described as “a national treasure” — should have remained a one-time thing for Monroe himself.

“No one should have worn that dress again,” Fortner said. “It’s hard because [Kardashian] is one of the most influential people in the world.

“If it were up to me, I wouldn’t have allowed it, if only because of the importance of the play in American cultural history. But let me be clear, this has nothing to do with Kim Kardashian,” he added.

“That [Met Gala] Moment raised awareness of Marilyn among a new generation,” Fortner said. “The dress has its own meaning. [Monroe] is a modern day Cleopatra and she will forever have a cultural presence.”

In their statement to The Post, Ripley’s organization also highlighted precautions being taken to protect the dress.
