‘Time Traveler’s Wife’ fans shocked by ‘disturbing’ oral sex scene

It blew the viewers away.

Viewers of the HBO adaptation of The Time Traveler’s Wife were “disturbed” and “haunted” by a sex scene featured in Sunday’s second episode as well as the original book.

In the episode, Henry – played by Theo James – explains to his beloved Clare (Rose Leslie) how his father found out about his time-travelling powers through an unpleasant coincidence.

A flashback shows a 16-year-old version of Henry using his powers to go back in time and perform oral sex on himself when his father walks in and sees the two versions of his son – both naked and in bed together.

A reviewer for Decider called it “the most confusing blowjob scene” in television history.

“I can’t say exactly why this scene is so disturbing but it will haunt me for the rest of my goddamn life,” Meghan O’Keefe wrote.

Others took to social media to offer their views on the scene.

“I’ve owned and read The Time Traveler’s Wife for many years and the way I bravely blocked out any memory of that scene.” wrote one user.

“‘The Time Traveler’s Wife’ is really wild,” said another user. “I just jump straight from an incredibly depressing scene to, ‘Of course I time-travelled to give myself a head, didn’t I?'”

Writer Jarett Wieselman narrated the scene actually made him watch the show.

“I had no intention of seeing The Time Traveller’s Wife on HBO Max, but then I saw this clip where the main character goes back in time to blow himself, and now I’m thinking…. Maybe they have some good ideas I should take a look at,” his now-viral tweet read.
