The shocking announcement that Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson will be suspended for six games on Monday has, as one might expect, sparked a heated response.

The allegations of sexual misconduct against Watson are upsetting, and they deal with the issue of how the NFL polices players when it comes to their behavior toward women.

Therefore, this is fair and understandable, given the nature of the allegations.

The history of the league includes sufficient instances of poor management of that to justify scepticism, and a significant portion of the reactions on Monday looked to have their roots in this cynicism.

Many anticipated that they would be let down by the conclusion, and to a large extent, that is exactly what happened.

The decisions reached through arbitration are not intended to please all parties involved.

The judgements are expected to be based on the information that has been given as well as the precedent that has already been established.
